What if The Mahavishnu Orchestra, Miles Davis, Stevie Wonder, Robert Glasper and Thundercat all fused their sounds together to create something unique? RAWTWHYLAH (pronounced as rottweiler) brings forth the free spirited philosophy of, “No rules, Anything goes” that the Avant-Garde era of music birthed. RAWTWHYLAH’s Caribbean background along with his infatuation for all styles of music creates a high energy, fusion melting pot experience guaranteed to grasp the ear of any musician or anyone with a love for music.
Music has its norms which are unique to any instrument. I challenge these norms in a free-spirited way when I play so that there is always a new sound and feel created. My music is therefore always evolving as I continue striving to compose. I am inspired by the art of fusion and the emotion that emanates from within the sound which gives an illusion of waves of movement. My fusion is a melting pot of sounds that gives its own meaning and identity and makes it unique as a genre. It is intentional and dynamic in intensity.
As I look to the future, I am excited to keep touring and mentoring as an educator as well as advocating for cultural diversity, instructing youths to express themselves through their instruments. As a Caribbean native I see my music as not limited to one genre but as a combined unit of all cultural groups. It is my intention to incorporate specific musical cultural groups in my music to create a dynamic sound. This is the concept that I would like to pass on to the youth so that they can develop their own style and musical identity.
